Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2449452A] A method which enables the user of a mobile computing device to provide a third party with their current position. The user determines the current estimated position of the mobile computing device using any available mechanism known to those skilled in the art. The mobile computing device then creates a position data file which includes information including, the identity of the device, the estimated position of the device, the time of the estimation, the accuracy of the estimation, etc. The mobile computing device then gives the user the option to transmit the position data file to a third party. The third party may be another user's computing device, which may be a mobile device. The position data file may be sent by SMS (Short Message Service), MMS (Multimedia Message Service), email or instant message.
