[origin: EP2168768A2] The unit (10) has a printing element (20) with an inking system (23) supplying color to the element, and a dampening device (24) supplying damping agent to the element. A control device (40) is coupled to the element, the inking system and the dampening device. Temperature measuring sensor (21a) provides temperature characteristics about temperature signals representing a surface width of a plate cylinder (21) of the element. Transmission units are integrated in the cylinder for transferring the signals to the control device. The control device controls the supply of agent on basis of signals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an offset printing machine comprising a control console (2) a method for operating an offset printing machine.
