Abstract (en)

[origin: EP2169080A1] The present invention provides aqueous flesh coating compositions comprising one or more aqueous acid-functional acrylic or vinyl copolymer and from 0.03 and up to 1.0 equivalent, based on equivalents of carboxylic acid in the polymer, of one or more active compound chosen from an aminoguanidine, semicarbazide, dihydrazide, guanamine, hydrazine and a salt thereof. Further, the invention provides methods of applying the coating composition to leather crust or to tanned leather, and to the flesh coated leather or coated leather crust produced thereby. The leather crust and tanned leather produced by the invention, for example fleshcoated or finished leather, will emit greatly reduced levels of aldehydes over time and especially valuable in scrubbing aldehydes from perforated leather for automotive use.
