[origin: WO2009007560A2] The method for processing postal items comprises forming a digital image (10) of the surface of a current item for recognising by OCR a postal address of the addressee for said item, and if it is determined that the recognised address of the addressee corresponds to an incorrect address of addressee, applying (14) on the surface of the current item a redirection address. Besides the redirection address, the method comprises applying on the surface of the current item a mark (M) that can be detected by OCR, said mark indicating that the current item bears a redirection address, and said mark also defining an index for recovering said redirection address in a database.
