[origin: WO2008154944A1] The invention relates to a thread storage device (1) for use in the production of a bobbin (31) wound with a yarn, preferably designed as a cross-wound bobbin, having a needle (6) for inserting a loop of the yarn to be formed in the area of the free thread end (33) of the yarn beneath a winding layer of the bobbin (31), and a needle insertion device (8) for guiding the needle (6) to the bobbin (31), and for moving the needle (6) in order to insert the loop beneath the winding layer of the bobbin (31). The needle insertion device (8) comprises at least two electric motors (11, 12, 13), which are equipped for the controlled guidance of the needle (6) to the bobbin (31) by means of a control unit (35), wherein the needle insertion device (8) is preferably configured to perform the moving of the needle (6) for inserting the loop beneath the winding layer of the bobbin (31) by means of an electric motor (11) that can be controlled by the control unit (35).
