[origin: EP2172593A2] The method involves receiving data using an injection unit (10) for characterizing a condition of a cable (1), where an injection device (A) includes three rolls (6) that are connected with the cable in a force-fitting manner. A cable roll is actuated by a motor (5), so that an injection device is moved to the cable, and the motor is controlled so that a predetermined position of the injection device is reproducible initiated at the coil. Data is affiliated for characterizing a condition of the cable correlated with the respective position. An independent claim is also included for an injection device for inspecting a cable, comprising three rolls.
