Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2172640A1] The method involves determining acoustic modes of noise generated by a heat engine e.g. diesel engine, of a vehicle i.e. car, and choosing physical characteristics i.e. stiffness, of a flexible membrane (50) based on the acoustic modes of the noise. The flexible membrane is fixed in an air intake circuit of the heat engine such that the flexible membrane is subjected to large non-linear deformation under the action of the acoustic modes of the noise. An independent claim is also included for a device for attenuating noise that is generated by a heat engine and is propagated in an air intake circuit of the engine, comprising a flexible membrane.
