Abstract (en)

[origin: EP2026004A1] The method involves operating a steam generator (2) with a fossil fuel, and separating oxygen from air at a process temperature using a membrane (6). The separated oxygen is supplied to a burner (3) for burning with the fossil fuel to produce hot combustion gas. Heat energy is supplied to maintain the required process temperature of the membrane, where the heat energy is obtained from the hot combustion gas in heat exchange with the air. The preheated air is supplied to the membrane, and the separated oxygen is supplied away from the membrane over a conduit (27). An independent claim is also included for a combustion system comprising a heat exchanger.
