[origin: WO2009010252A2] The invention relates to an operating device (13) for an electric hob (30), the operation thereof being carried out by pressing a finger on specifically defined contact points. Said operating device comprises a plurality of contact pads (20) serving as contact points. The contact pads (20) can be freely displaced from the electric hob (30) or the operating device (13). They have an individual coding (23), for example by modulating an electromagnetic field. The operating device (13) comprises an electrode surface (15) to be fixed beside the electrical appliance where the contact pads (20) are arranged. A capacitive coupling is established between the contact pads (20) and the electrode surface (15). The operating device further comprises a control and evaluation device (17) connected to the electrode surface (15), either for detecting the contact of a contact pad (20) and to detect and differentiate the contact on said contact pad from other contact pads by means of the individual coding (23).
