[origin: WO2009024718A2] The invention relates to a system (10) for diagnosing the operation of an automobile, that comprises control units (14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 28, 46) of the vehicle and at least one unit (14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 28, 46) for diagnosing the operation state of the control units (14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 28, 46) connected through at least one data communication network (20, 30). According to the invention, the system includes a management unit (46) connected to at least one network (20, 30) and capable of recognising the activation state of control units (14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 28, 46) and of inhibiting the diagnosis implemented by the at least one diagnosis unit (14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 28, 46) relative to a deactivated control unit.
