Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2180561A2] The commutator (1) has lamellas (2) forming a ring with a cohesive molding mass (3). The lamellas have a contact region (5) at an outer peripheral surface for contact with brushes (6), and another contact region (7) for contact with an armature winding (8). The commutator is formed with a steel ring (9) inserted from a lower side (20) of the lamellas. The lower side of the lamellas lies opposite to one of the contact regions. The steel ring is embedded into a recess (17) from the lower side of the lamellas below the former contact region. The recess is sealed with a material i.e. copper. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a commutator for an electrical machine i.e. starter.
