Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2009010439A1] The invention relates to a coupling device (3) for connecting a heavy vehicle (1) and a towed unit (2) which, in the working position, are arranged on a ground forming a horizontal plane, said device (3) allowing the relative pitch movement between the towed unit (2) and the heavy vehicle (1). According to the invention, the distance (4) between the instantaneous centre of rotation (5) of the relative pitch movement of the towed unit (2) with respect to the heavy vehicle (1) and the orthogonal projection of said instantaneous centre of rotation (5) onto said horizontal plane is less than 1/9 of the outside diameter of the largest mounted assembly of the heavy vehicle and/or less than 25 centimetres. The invention also provides a method of towing a unit by a heavy vehicle.
