The cams operate a gas exchange valve for adjusting different valve lift and/or valve timing. The cam (2) is connected with the cam shaft in a torque-proof manner, and the cam (3) is rotatably supported on the cam shaft. The cam (3) is connectable and separable with the cam (2) by a controllable main locking piston (6).
