Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2009027211A1] The invention relates to a method for improving a diagnostic function of a field device (F0; F1; F2) which is connected to a master unit (SPS) via a field bus (F) and generates diagnostic data in relation to the field device (F0; F1; F2) and/or in relation to at least one other field device (F0; F1; F2) that is connected to the field bus (F). The generated diagnostic data is transmitted to a knowledge system (10). After doing maintenance work on the field device (F0; F1; F2) on which the diagnostic data is generated, a rule is generated in the knowledge system (10), said rule establishing a relationship between the diagnostic data generated before the maintenance work was done and the maintenance work done and/or the fault that has occurred. The knowledge system (10) then transmits the rule at least to the field device (F0; F1; F2) that generated the diagnostic data. The diagnostic function of the field device (F0; F1; F2) to which the rule was transmitted is automatically updated on the basis of the rule in such a way that data contained in the rule is taken into account when diagnostic data is generated.
