[origin: WO2009027245A2] The invention relates to a method and a device (1) for giving advance warning of emergency vehicles (3) on an emergency call out. The emergency vehicles (3) transmit warning signals by means of vehicle-to-vehicle communication, said signals being received by other vehicles (2) and displayed to the driver of the receiving vehicle (2). To rapidly alert the driver to the direction of the approaching vehicle, the warning signal of the emergency vehicle (3) contains a position specification of the emergency vehicle (3) and said position specification is evaluated in the vehicle (2) that receives the warning signal, the position of the emergency vehicle (3) being displayed in relation to the position of the receiving vehicle (2).
