[origin: EP2189956A1] The method involves producing a characteristic acoustic field within a smoke alarm by activating a transducer (8). The characteristic acoustic field is produced by overlaying an acoustic wave emitted directly from the transducer. A physical dimension of an acoustic field, particularly amplitude and phase is measured at a position within the acoustic field in smoke alarm. An independent claim is included for a fire alarm suitable for execution of the method.
