[origin: FR2921480A1] The sensor (10) has a detector (3) for detecting transitions of a target pattern (1) e.g. Manchester biphase code, on a mobile unit (2) with respect to the detector. A shift register (4) e.g. linear feedback shift register, stores a predetermined number of successive information from the detector. A comparing unit compares outputs (5) of the shift register with respect to a reference table (6) containing predetermined values. Each predetermined value corresponds to a position of the detector with respect to the pattern.
