[origin: DE102008044336B3] The appliance e.g. washing machine (1), has a cabinet shaped housing (2) including a door (10) with an opening unit (12) at a front side (3), where the door is pivotably arranged over a vertical axis (14). The opening unit has a gripping element (20) and a locking unit, which is provided for locking the door and corresponds with a locking opening in the housing. The gripping element is pivotably arranged over a horizontal axis (22), where the door is opened by pivoting the gripping element. The horizontal axis is arranged below the locking unit.
