[origin: EP2194762A1] The method involves connecting lights (2) with a central station (3) of an emergency or safety lighting system (1), and attaching a monitoring and controlling module (4) to the lights. Verifying and/or testing responses are periodically transmitted between the station and the module. The lights are continuously monitored concerning a light parameter. An appropriate light state is generated in case of incorrect light parameter. The light state is stored and notified to the station during manual or automatic periodic transmission of the verifying and/or testing responses. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a method for controlling and monitoring an emergency or safety lighting system.
