[origin: WO2009050011A1] Surge arrester with a module (1, 3, 9, 25), comprising a stack of varistor blocks (1), two end armatures, the stack of varistor blocks (1) is held between said armatures, a plurality of reinforcing elements (9) which extend between the end armatures (3) and are attached thereto, wherein the reinforcing elements (9) surround the stack of varistor blocks, and at least one stabilizing disk (25) which is arranged between two varistor blocks (1) in the stack and bearing at least one reinforcing element (9), and with one outer housing (5) with shields in which the module is held at least in part. In the surge arrester according to the invention, the outer housing is designed so that the module is held without intermediate gas, liquid or volume or cavities. In addition, each of the stabilization disks (25) is arranged in the vicinity of one of the shields (7).
