[origin: CA2699703A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for transporting a plurality of articles (P-1,..., P-z), especially postal items, to predetermined destinations. A transport attribute and at least one predetermined feature of every article is measured and the values are stored. The article is transported to an intermediate destination (ZE-2) together with other articles, using in a transport means (Beh-1). The transport means (Beh-1) is provided with a label (E-1) which has a machine-readable identification (Ke-1). Said identification (Ke-1) is read, thereby making it possible to determine in which transport means (Beh-1) an article was transported. After transport to the intermediate destination (ZE-2) a value of the feature is again measured. The stored data record of the article is determined using the feature value, and a transport corresponding to the transport attribute value in the data record is initiated. In order to find the stored data record, the search is restricted to the data records for those articles (P-1,..., P-x) that were transported in the same transport means (Beh-1).
