[origin: WO2009062804A1] The invention relates to an extract of the pericarp of Litchi chinensis Sonn. that is extraordinarily suitable in combination with taurine and/or a derivative of taurine in the context of an oxidative hair treatment for improving the shine of hair, for improving brightness, improving color retention, and protecting hair from UV radiation. By using a method for an oxidative hair treatment, in which an oxidative cosmetic agent comprising at least one oxidizing agent contained in a cosmetic carrier is applied to the hair and rinsed from the hair after an exposure time, wherein - immediately before applying the oxidative cosmetic agent, an extract of the pericarp of Litchi chinensis Sonn. is applied and optionally rinsed out again after an exposure time, and/or - the oxidative cosmetic agent further contains an extract of the pericarp of Litchi chinensis Sonn. in combination with taurine, and/or a derivative of taurine, it was possible to easily attain the parameters mentioned above with no adverse influence on the result of the oxidative effect of the agent.
