Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2452994A] An object for removing water from an investment casting slurry in a mould sleeve 10 comprises a body of water absorbent material 70 and having at least a portion of its outer surface being water permeable thereby providing fluid communication from outside of said object with said water absorbent material 70. The object further comprises means for sealing onto an end of a sleeve 10. Sealing can be achieved by sizing the object to fit into and end of the sleeve, or by using an elastic material or a bead of wax. The water absorbent material may be plaster, silica, wood pulp, paper pulp and/or vermiculite and is either compressed together into a unitary body or held together in a container 80.
