In an exemplary embodiment, the household appliance, such as a dishwasher, may include a control element structured to control the household appliance; a power supply structured to supply power to the household appliance; at least one display element for displaying at least one of an operating state and data about the household appliance; and a control device structured to supply electrical energy from the power supply, by actuation of the control element, to the at least one display element, and at least one of reduce and interrupt the power supply to the display element after a preset time period.
