Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2218526A1] The method involves holding a tubular workpiece (1) in a handler (2) that includes a passage (6) aligned with a bore (7) of the workpiece. A rod is provided to carry a mandrel and formed with a centering guide (8) having outside guide diameter smaller than inside passage diameter and greater than outside rod diameter. The mandrel is inserted into the bore through the passage while sliding the guide along the passage and centering the rod in the passage by the guide. The workpiece is externally engaged around the mandrel with forging tools such that the workpiece is forged around the mandrel. An independent claim is also included for a pipe-making apparatus comprising a handler.
