[origin: EP2218624A2] The sensor (RS) has a sensor device (SE) for detecting a signal (S) triggered by a wheel of a rolling-by rail vehicle, where the sensor is designed as a double wheel sensor. A processing device (VE) determines a parameter (K) from a detected signal. A communication device (KE) is provided for wireless communication of the parameter, where the processing device and the sensor device are arranged in a common housing. A line-independent self-sufficient power supply device comprises an electro-chemical energy storage i.e. primary cell. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a railway installation comprising an evaluator (2) a method for operating a railway installation.
