[origin: WO2009080770A1] The invention relates to a laundry care appliance having a memory unit and at least one operating program, stored selectively in the memory unit, with a plurality of operating program parameters, wherein a setting element (10) for the user to set at least one adjustable variable and a control unit for automatically altering at least one specific operating value, associated with the operating program, for an operating program parameter to match it to the adjustable variable which has been set by the user, said parameter being able to be used to prescribe an end result that is to be achieved, are provided. The invention also relates to a method for operating a laundry care appliance, in which selection of an operating program with a plurality of operating program parameters is followed by the user using a setting element to set at least one end result that is to be achieved, and at least one specific operating value, associated with the operating program, for an operating program parameter being automatically altered to match it to the adjustable variable which has been set by the user. The invention has the advantage that the user can very easily preselect the period of time, for example, and the operating program automatically matches the operating program parameters to the preselection.
