[origin: WO2009083104A2] A press (1) for shaping workpieces (2) in a plurality of stages comprises a transfer device (3) with gripper rails (5), in order to grip the workpieces (2) and move them on in stages. In this process, the table (6) bearing the bottom tool or tools of the press (1) can move up and down in order to produce the pressing force, and the transfer device (3) is designed such that it can move together with said table (6) in that it is either secured directly or indirectly to the table (6) or is held on supports (9), and is coupled directly or indirectly to the table via drivers (10) in order to follow the movement of said table. The transfer device (3), together with the gripper rails (5), can therefore be actuated during the downward movement of the table (6) in the sense of moving the workpieces (2) on.
