[origin: EP2233224A1] The method involves supporting a metal tube on mandrel bars (6, 6') in a rotatable manner between upper and lower carriages (3, 4) of a linear deformation unit (1) in such a manner that the metal tube experiences a deformation by a rolling rail (5) during anti-parallel displacement of the carriages. The rolling rail is arranged at one of the carriages, where an outer diameter of a mandrel bar section corresponds to an inner diameter of the deformation. The bar section is driven by a mechanical drive e.g. spindle drive (9), where the rolling rail has a caliber.
