[origin: WO2009090050A1] The present invention relates to a recombinant host cell, which contains at least one nucleic acid molecule, which codes a polypeptide, which catalyzes a substrate-product conversion, which is selected from the following two reactions: acetaldehyde + coenzyme A + NAD+ acetyl coenzyme A + NADHH-H+ and/or pyruvate + coenzyme A acetyl coenzyme A + formate. At least one DNA molecule is heterologous to said host cell and said host cell has an increased acetyl coenzyme A production. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for an increased rate of formation of acetyl CoA in a host cell.
