[origin: WO2009083144A1] The invention relates to a machine provided with an excavation device (7) for receiving ballast from a track. A conveyer chain (9) is guided in two longitudinal channels (10) and a lateral chain strand (11). Each longitudinal channel (10) comprises a channel opening (16) in a lower end. Said opening be selectively closed by a first or second channel cover (17, 18). Thus, in conjunction with a smaller auxiliary chain (22), the ballast can also be received in narrow track passages, for example in the region of a platform.
