The ion gun (2) has a plasma chamber (4) and an electrode (8) extended for the plasma chamber. A gas line (6) for gas to be ionized and is extended over the entire length of the electrode and is parallel to the electrode. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electrode for an ion gun; and (2) a method for introducing gas to be ionized in an ion gun for producing a particle jet.

Eine Ionenquelle (2) zum Erzeugen eines Partikelstrahls umfasst eine Plasmakammer (4) und eine Elektrode (8) die sich zur Plasmakammer (4) erstreckt. Ein zu ionisierendes Gas wird über eine Gasleitung in die Ionenquelle (2) eingeleitet, wobei die Gasleitung (6) sich über die gesamte Länge der Elektrode (8) parallel zur Elektrode (8) erstreckt, so dass das Gas in unmittelbarer Nähe eines Eingangs (4) der Plasmakammer (4) aus der Gasleitung (6) hinausströmt.
