[origin: WO2009092400A1] An illumination device, particularly street illumination device, for illuminating an evaluation field (24), comprises a base body (4) on which a plurality of light emitting diode units (8, 10) are arranged, each comprising a light emitting diode (14) and a beam forming device associated to the light emitting diode. According to the invention, the light emitting diode units (8, 10) are designed for illuminating substantially the entire evaluation field (24) associated with the illumination unit.
