The operation method involves rotating the brush roller (16) in a normal operational direction during operation, and rotating the brush roller in a reverse direction opposite to the normal operational direction of rotation when the brush roller is detected to be jammed. The jamming is detected when the current consumption of motor exceeds a predetermined threshold. The brush roller is rotated in the reverse direction by a predetermined angle upon occurrence of jamming. An independent claim is included for an attachment device.

Verfahren zum Betrieb eines Vorsatzgeräts (14) und ein nach dem Verfahren arbeitendes Vorsatzgerät (14) für einen Staubsauger (10), mit einer elektrisch drehbaren Borstenwalze (16) und einem Motor (18) zum Antrieb der Borstenwalze (16), wobei die Borstenwalze (16) im Betrieb in einer Betriebsdrehrichtung gedreht wird; bei dem die Borstenwalze (16) in einer der Betriebsdrehrichtung entgegengesetzten Drehrichtung - einer Rückdrehrichtung - gedreht wird, falls eine Blockade der Borstenwalze (16) erkannt wird. Das Vorsatzgerät (14) weist dazu geeignete Mittel zum Erkennen der Blockade und zur Abgabe eines Blockadesignals (24) - sogenannte Blockadeerkennungsmittel (22) - zur Drehrichtungsumkehr des Motors (18) auf.
