The controller (10) has input terminals (11) for receiving external control commands. Output terminals (12-14) and a common output (15) are provided for transmitting operating device commands e.g. pulse width modulation signals, to respective operating devices (20-25) of a light source or a lighting arrangement, where a control unit generates the operating device commands based on the received external control commands. One of the operating devices is in the form of an electronic ballast for operating the light source or the lighting arrangement. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a light source or a lighting arrangement.

Ein Steuergerät (10) zum Ansteuern einer Leuchte bzw. Beleuchtungsanordnung, welche zumindest zwei Betriebsgeräte (20-25) zum Betreiben von an den Betriebsgeräten (20-25) angeschlossenen Lichtquellen aufweist, weist Eingangsanschlüsse (11) zum Empfangen externer Steuerbefehle, Ausgangsanschlüsse (12-15) zum Übermitteln von Betriebsgerätebefehlen an die Betriebsgeräte (20-25) der Leuchte bzw. Beleuchtungsanordnung sowie eine Steuereinheit, welche dazu ausgebildet ist, auf Basis der empfangenen externen Steuerbefehle die Betriebsgerätebefehle zu generieren, auf.
