The device (30) has a drive unit (32) with a motor (34) for rotating a wheel (36) that rolls a manually moving device (10), and a direct current voltage generator with a rotating element fixedly attached to a rotatable shaft, where the rotating element is attached to the wheel. The generator with the shaft forms a direction sensor for detecting a movement direction of the manually moving device. A drive electronics controls the motor for rotating the wheel in a rotation direction that corresponds to the movement direction detected by the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a manually movable device comprising two longitudinal bars attached to a wheel of an auxiliary drive device.
