The press has a format balancing roller (18) arranged between a vacuum draw-out roller (48) of two printing units (12, 14) and a vacuum draw-in roller (46) of one of the printing units (14) and a third printing roller (16) in a loop of a material web (10). The web is wound around the balancing roller. The balancing roller is controllably and automatically displaced at a distance from the draw-in and draw-out rollers. A chamber for air staying under high pressure is provided in an interior of the balancing roller and communicates with the atmosphere via a microporous, air-permeable surface.

Eine intermittierend betreibbare Druckmaschine zum Bedrucken einer Materialbahn (10) von der Rolle hat wenigstens zwei in Laufrichtung der Materialbahn (10) hintereinander angeordnete Druckwerke (12, 14, 16) mit je einen Druckturm, einer in Drehung antreibbaren Vakuum-Einzugwalze (46) davor und einer in Drehung antreibbaren Vakuum-Auszugwalze (48) dahinter. Zwischen der Vakuum-Auszugwalze (46) eines vorderen Druckwerks (12, 14) und der Vakuum-Einzugwalze (48) eines hinteren Druckwerks (14, 16) befindet sich eine gesteuert maschinell verstellbare Formatausgleichswalze (18). Die Formatausgleichswalze (18) ist hohl. Sie hat im Innern eine Kammer für unter Überdruck stehende Luft und eine mikroporöse, luftdurchlässige Oberfläche.
