[origin: EP2251286A2] The apparatus (10) has a separating rollers (22, 26) driven such that the separating rollers transport a set of bank papers (14, 36) in transport direction when the bank papers contact the separating rollers. One of the supporting rollers has a peripheral recess. The separating rollers are arranged such that a part of the other supporting roller is arranged inside the peripheral recess of the former supporting roller. A control unit adjusts overlap depth around which the latter supporting roller projects into the recess. An independent claim is also included for a method for separating bank papers in a bank paper pile.
