[origin: EP2251609A2] The device has optical display elements (19-23) arranged adjacent to retaining devices (14a-14c, 15-18) for displaying a push-in plane at muffles (3). The push-in plane is associated to an operational function of the device, where the push-in plane is displayed by illumination of the optical display elements after selection of the operational function. The operational function is functionally associated with a specific lighting device of a cooking chamber. Automatic activation of the lighting device depends on selection of the operational function. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooking device.
