[origin: WO2009112772A2] The invention relates to a car (1) that comprises, on the one hand, an elongated platform (10) for conveying loads on a railway and, on the other hand, a roof (60) for covering said platform, the roof being located above loading and unloading devices (30) arranged on the platform. In order to facilitate the use of the car both in the presence of a powered catenary system and in the presence of overhead equipment for loading the car, the roof includes two fixed roof members (721, 722) rigidly connected to the platform and covering the first two longitudinal portions (10A, 10B) of the platform, and four mobile roof members (741, 761, 742, 762) each movable relative to one of the fixed roof members between an extended position, in which the mobile roof members protrude from the fixed roof members in the longitudinal direction of the platform and thus cover four second longitudinal portions (10C, 10D, 10E, 10F) of the platform adjacent to the two first portions, and a stowed position in which each mobile roof member and the corresponding fixed roof member thereof are stacked along the vertical direction so that the second portions of the platform are uncovered towards the top.
