Abstract (en)

The invention refers to an emission control apparatus of an internal combustion engine (1) of a hybrid vehicle that is run via the internal combustion engine (1) and an electric motor (32, 33), the emission control apparatus utilizing an oxygen absorption-storage action of an emission control catalyst (19) disposed in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine (1). The apparatus comprises absorption-storage capability computing means (18) for computing an oxygen absorption-storage capability of the emission control catalyst (19); and output distribution control means (40) for controlling a distribution between an output of the internal combustion engine (1) and an output of the electric motor (32, 33). The absorption-storage capability computing means (18) computes the oxygen absorption-storage capability by serially performing a fuel stop and a rich operation. At a time of computation of an oxygen absorption-storage capability by the absorption-storage capability computing means (18), the output distribution control means (40) controls the distribution of output between the internal combustion engine (1) and the electric motor (32, 33) so as to provide an output required of the vehicle.
