[origin: WO2009120996A1] The present invention relates to a method, system and apparatus that allows delayed recovery of stem cells isolated from umbilical cord and/or placental tissue and/or blood. This is enabled by providing for sustained cellular viability under hypothermic conditions using a nutrient matrix that allows for prolonged storage and transport and autonomously prepares cells and tissues for isolation of cellular sub- populations and cryogenic freezing processes.
