[origin: EP2272413A2] The holder has an upper holding element (18) and a lower holding element (28) rotatably receiving a paper roll (12) such that the roll is rotated around a rotational axis (D) and paper is unwound from the roll by pulling a free end (16) of the paper wound on the roll. The holding elements clampingly act upon the roll in an axial direction and partially project into axial edge regions of the roll so that the roll is held by the holding elements. The holding elements move relative to each other and are connected with each other by a guide element, which is arranged outside the roll.
