[origin: WO2009133049A1] The method for producing metal-based materials for magnetic cooling or heat pumps comprises the following steps: a) reacting chemical elements and/or alloys in a stoichiometry which corresponds to the metal-based material in the solid and/or liquid phase, b) optionally converting the reaction product from step a) into a solid, c) sintering and/or tempering the solid from step a) or b), d) quenching the sintered and/or tempered solid from step c) at a cooling speed of at least 100 K/s.
