Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2009132890A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a gas discharge lamp (1), wherein an electrical heating current (IH) and an electrical discharge current (Id) are at least temporarily supplied to an electrode (6, 7) when the gas discharge lamp (1) is operated. The value (SoS1, SoS2) of the sum of the squares of the electrical currents (I1, I2) supplied via the current supply lines (8, 9, 10, 11) that are connected to an electrode (6, 7) is adjusted, in the nominal operation of the gas discharge lamp (1), at an interval between 1.2 times the square of the test current (IT) provided for the gas discharge lamp (1) and 2 times the square of the test current (IT). The invention also relates to a lighting system comprising a gas discharge lamp and an operating device for the gas discharge lamp.
