[origin: EP2277630A2] The device has a roller pair (3) comprising drivable rollers (3a, 3b) that form an adjustable metering opening (10), where a web (1) is guided between the rollers. A guide roller (4) is arranged in front of the roller pair, and an application unit directly applies free-flowing coating medium on the web. Another guide roller (5) is movable in a vertical plane, and the application unit has a trough (6), where the rollers comprise smooth surfaces. The drivable rollers are arranged vertically on top of each other in such a manner that the web is guided horizontally between the rollers.
