Abstract (en)

The present invention relates to in vitro and in vivo methods for the generation of pancreatic ²-cells, comprising the step of providing at least one pancreatic ±-cell or at least one precursor cell with Pax-4 or a nucleic acid encoding Pax-4. Furthermore, the invention relates to a screening method for the screening of a pancreatic-²-cell phenotype-inducing compound, comprising the step of contacting at least one pancreatic ±-cell or at least one precursor cell with a given compound, and testing whether said compound is capable of inducing a pancreatic-²-cell phenotype.
