[origin: EP2284059A2] A method for delivering ballast, or other free flow materials such as sand and gravel, has a line of railway trucks each fitted with a conveyor belt along the bottom of each truck to move the material to and from the working site. Each truck also has an adjustable transfer conveyor at each end to allow flow of material in either direction, e.g. to pick up old ballast and to deliver fresh and cleaned ballast. The trucks assemble into a ballast train of selected length. The end of the trucks comprise hinged plates which are raised for transport and lowered for ballast transfer.
