[origin: WO2010000610A1] The invention relates to a lighting unit for vehicle headlights comprising a light emitting diode device (500), a housing (200) inside of which components of an operating circuit for operating the light emitting diode device (500) are disposed, wherein the housing (200) is made of electrically insulating material, electrical connections (222) for providing power supply to the lighting unit are embedded in the housing (200), the housing (200) comprises first adjustment means (213a, 213b, 213c) for aligning the lighting unit in a vehicle headlight, the light-emitting diode device (500) is disposed on a surface (112) of a heat sink (100), and the heat sink (100) forms a support surface (120a) for an external cooling system disposed at an external side of the housing (200).
