Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2010006788A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a chopping unit (1) for a forage harvester comprising a chopping drum (2) that is mounted in a rotationally driven manner in a chopping housing (8) and that is equipped with several chopping blades (10), wherein a flow of material for comminution is guided from the outside through a through opening (11). According to the invention, the flow of material is discharged from the chopping housing as comminuted chopped goods, via the outlet chamber (12). The cutting movement of the chopping blades is carried out as part of the rotational movement that extends approximately perpendicular to the movement of the flow of material performed as a first relative movement at either a constant or instantaneously changeable cutting speed and the first relative movement between the flow of material and chopping blades (10) is forced as a translatory movement as a second relative movement by a driven vibration exciter (79). Said device for carrying out said method comprises a vibration exciter and the arrangement thereof inside a chopping device, which offsets, preferably the chopping drum and/or the area facing the chopping drum of the incoming flow of material (80) in translatory oscillations in order to reduce mainly the energy consumed by friction on the chopping blades.
